Year 5 – Bradwell (2 nights)
During the summer term, Year 5 has the opportunity to go to Essex Outdoors’ centre at Bradwell. It is a coastal outdoor education centre, based on the River Blackwater Estuary, a lovely stretch of sheltered tidal water on the east coast of Essex.
Delivering high-quality residential and day-based outdoor education programmes, Bradwell is recognised as a leading provider of sailing, yachting and watersport activities.
Bradwell offers a purpose-built residential unit with accommodation for young people in comfortable bunk rooms, with separate rooms for staff, plus a lounge, dining room and games room. The children take part in various outdoor activities such as: powerboating, paddle-sports, keelboat sailing, archery, off-road mountain biking, crabbing and orienteering.
Year 6 – Isle of Wight (4 nights)
This residential is a great opportunity for the Year 6 students to investigate a coastal setting. It also provides ample opportunities for the children to immerse themselves in British historical settings such as Osborne House, which is a former royal residence of Queen Victoria in East Cowes, and board HMS Victory in Portsmouth’s historical dockyard.
Robin Hill Adventure and Country Park ride experiences include the quarter mile downhill toboggan run which reaches speeds up to 25mph! A swinging galleon and the African Adventure and Squirrel tower provide challenging adventure play for the older children. A highlight here is always the falconry and woodland owl display – where the children learn about how the birds fly, hunt and survive in the wild.
On the way to the Needles landmark experience, the children climb Tennyson Downs to take in the awe inspiring sights as well as discover the personal joy of completing a very challenging hike. It is a real, opportunity for the children to explore how their own bodies react to strenuous challenge.
Every night, at the stunning beach in Sandown, the children take part in cricket matches, sandcastle competitions, football matches and learn to skim stones into the sea.
